Genève aéroport, 15 juin vers 22h30.

Mes vacances africaines ont commencé à Genève aéroport avec une heure pour faire le drop-off de mes deux valises. Et j'ai été dans la queue "rapide" pour les personnes ayant déjà fait le check-in au préalable.

Philippines here we go!

Well it's almost there. My upcoming business trip to the Philippines.

My plan there? To meet my two friends from Canada and France. I met them both in Cambodia last year. I was looking for friends to visit Siem Reap. I asked those two guys. Never made a better mistake. Honestly, it wasn't a mistake.

Otherwise, try new beers, see new things, meet new people, dive some, drive some motorcycle, see chocolate of a different kind, etc.

Mon bagage ne m'ayant pas été retourné avant que Hunter parte de Willis pour nous rejoindre à Austin, j'ai dû retourner à Willis. La compagnie United Airlines ne délivre pas des bagage à Austin si le vol est à destination de Houston. Voila pourquoi je l'ai fait livrer à Willis. Je ne savais pas non plus que British Airways commencerait un service jusqu'à Austin le 3 mars de cette année.

Mon baggage m'a enfin été retourné, après un week-end sans nouvelles...

Je suis de retour à Willis, au nord de Houston pour 1 jour.

Le trajet

La Dôle

Le trajet, comme la plupart d'entre vous le savent déjà, s'est passé un peu différemment que ce que j'avais prévu. Ça a commencé avec le premier vol à Genève.

Nous étions dans les temps lors de la première annonce du capitaine qui disait que nous allions décoller dans les 20 prochaines minutes. Mais après une longue attente, nous n'avions toujours pas décollé. Le capitaine nous a repassé une annonce un peu moins encourageante: un indicateur ne fonctionnait pas comme il fallait, un ingénieur allait passer pour le réparer. Ceci a pris un certain temps. Nous avons finalement décollé sans réparation et avec environ une heure et demi de retard.

Le temps des adieux

Au moment où les gens pourront lire ce post, je serai probablement déjà envolé pour les USA. J'aurai normalement survolé la France pour aller atterrir à Londres. Clothilde est prête pour son nouveau voyage, malgré le fait qu'elle soit très mal en point. Mais ce n'est pas grave, c'est de participer qui compte, et même si elle n'arrive pas au bout, elle est bien partie! Vous verrez, elle ira loin c'te p'tiote!

Petit à petit, je retourne en arrière dans le temps, pour qu'il me rattrape une seconde fois. Ah c'est pas comme ça qu'on voyage dans le temps? J'avais pas tout compris. A l'heure où je vous écris, j'ai déjà été bouffé par un moustique!

Flashpacking vs backpacking

I recently discovered I am a flashpacker when on the road.

I always knew I wasn't like all the backpackers who travel very lightly (good for them, I would enjoy the feeling for a day or two), who go local for a matter of culture and price and who do almost no tourist activity. Partly because they don't have the budget, and partly because they don't want to go where tourists go. They travel for long periods of time.

So on some points I'm still doing that, but mostly not.

Alpine Lowe Travel Trekker II 70

In July 2012 I toured all the sports and bag shops I could find that would have trekking backpacks. I was looking for an improvement on my old backpack which is still in really good condition, but unfortunately not spacious enough. It's other disadvantage is that the bag has one opening on top and one in the bottom. I was looking for a more modern view with mid or side opening.

Alpine Lowe made the Travel Trekker II which opens like a suitcase. You get instant access to the whole length of the bag. Although you still have to dig underneath your stuff for access to the bottom, at least the bottom is not as deep down as in a traditional backpack.

Maputo to Nelspruit

After seeing my luggage all together, I once again decided it was really too big, and that I should probably loose some objects. I don't seem to have that many things when it's out of the bags, but once packed it just seems that the seams of the bags will let go.

I took the Intercape bus with 2 isreali girls who came in to Base Backpackers yesterday evening and Sean, the American from San Fransisco. The isreali girls were doing some diving in Tofo with us, and it was funny to see them again in Maputo. We then met Miguel, a guy from Portugal travelling in Southern Africa.
