Road trip in the Balkans - part 4

As soon as I left the port town of Igoumenitsa behind me, I started feeling that my adventure had begun. I was driving in a northeastly direction towards the hills, and finally, the border town of Kakavijë.

Lost in translation

Mirjam (pointing at a picture of a beefsteak with fries and salad): I would like this please.

Waitress: ok

Waitress starts walking away.

Marcel: Please, can I also order something? (not in these words, much simpler).

Waitress comes back and looks at the item pointed out by Marcel.

Waitress nods and walks away.

So then we wonder what we will finally get.

Results:

  1. Two plates with a battered and fried fish, chips and salad. Close, but not really.
  2. One plate with the Lao beef salad. At least she got this right.
It was good, funny and quite expensive for Laotian rates.

Coconut candies

So I didn't follow it all exactly. I was kind of still half asleep. No wonder after having slept only 3 hours. We had a nice time last night with Mirjam who joined me in Vietnam. I met Mirjam in Sihanoukville, Cambodia, where she had long term plans that didn't work out. A little like mine. In short I recommended Speak-Easy Cafe Homestay to her and her brother and her friend when they reached Bangkok. They went there and later I also went there. Mirjam had moved on, but had stayed in touch with the owners, Niddy and Aaron. As she was also going to Vietnam, we decided to join forces.

Anyway, that's not the point of this story.

Tha Din Daeng food market

Every Thursday and Monday, there is a market where half the vendors sell food just opposite of my homestay place where I stay. It is the Tha Din Daeng market. I visited it for the second time with Aaron (and another guest each time). Every time, I try and discover new things. It is awesome, although everything is not always looking very appetizing and yummy.
